105 Years Strong and Counting*

Since 1919, Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe residents have ensured that neighbors across the lifespan have access to what they need: nutritious food; opportunities for educational advancement; physical, mental, and social wellness programs; counseling in times of grief; recreation and enrichment; and rehabilitation and prevention services.
We value your generous donations in ANY amount. According to the US Census, there are 13,151 households in Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe combined. If each household donated $50 per year, we would raise $657,550. If each household set aside $20 monthly for the Fund, we would raise $3,156,240 annually. For further context, the annual campaign goal in 1952 was $203,000. Accounting for inflation, that amount equals $2,399,992 today.

Facsimile of The Eastchester Covenant*Are we the oldest Community Fund in NY?

Going back to the settlement of Eastchester in 1665, the laws laid out in the Eastchester (or “Ten Farms”) Covenant were meant to be “a framework for a good society, a mission statement or blueprint on what type of community our 17th century forefathers wanted their community to be,” including the education of children according to Eastchester historian, Richard Forliano. This document (housed at Eastchester Town Hall) and it’s provisions are complex in contextual nature, but their aim was to form a supportive society.

In a more recent era, The New York Community Trust, founded in 1923, was established a full 4 years after The Community Fund.

We may just be the oldest — and we can certainly lay claim to the intended philosophical standards of community living in a way that supports a thriving population. Stay tuned.
