Good weather and community spirit brought out more than 25 high school volunteers from the Youth Community Fund on Saturday, September 25, for exciting events around Bronxville and Tuckahoe. First, YCF volunteers participated in Saturday morning’s Tuckahoe Cares Day litter pick-up. Volunteers met outside the Tuckahoe Community Center, were given garbage bags and gloves, and started cleaning the community.
On Saturday afternoon, the Bronxville/Tuckahoe Police Department barbecue took place on the front lawn of Bronxville Village Hall. YCF volunteers attended to help set up the barbecue and have a good time with friends and neighbors.
“Residents of all ages from Bronxville and Tuckahoe flocked to Bronxville Village Hall’s front lawn to share hot dogs and burgers,” said YCF volunteer Ted Heraty. “These were grilled and served by Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale and Tuckahoe Police Chief John Costanzo in a genuine show of community building.”
Lastly, members of the YCF fundraising team hosted a raffle on Pondfield Road during the Bronxville Sidewalk Sale. Volunteers sold raffle tickets for gift certificates from popular establishments around town, including Topps Bakery, The Silk Road, The Taco Project, and Booskerdoo. All of the money raised from the raffle will be used to fund grants that the YCF will distribute to local organizations this spring.
Established by The Community Fund in 2019, the Youth Community Fund is a group of over 100 high school students from Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe who volunteer to raise funds throughout the year and award community grants to area agencies each spring.
