The way an individual chooses to spend their free time can have a significant impact on their lifestyle, and this is especially true for individuals served by SEC, who often face an unhealthy excess of free time.

We Support the Whole Person and their Families

By Jennifer Spenner-Kind, Executive Director

South East offers programs and services to members of the intellectual and developmental disabilities community in southern Westchester County, encompassing nine municipalities and 12 communities.

Participants demonstrate a wide-range of physical, cognitive, psychological, emotional and social disabilities or limitations. The way an individual chooses to spend their free time can have a significant impact on their lifestyle, and this is especially true for individuals served by SEC, who often face an unhealthy excess of free time.

SEC members benefit from programs and services which are age appropriate, adaptable to differing needs and interests and are designed to stimulate community inclusion whenever possible.

SEC strives to:
– Promote general health, healthy eating habits and address wellness needs through activities.

– Stimulate social skills and friendships through community exposure.

– Encourage community interaction and awareness.

– Provide respite opportunities for families.

– Provide peer mentorship opportunities through guided employment.

South East’s programs have consistently operated at or near full capacity for many years. We continue to expand our capacity to serve new individuals each and every day through community outreach and OPWDD Care Coordination Conferences, Transition service fairs and community outreach.

By creating positive opportunities and experiences, our participants have demonstrated an ability to perform better in school, the workplace and have become more active in community life.
