The Concordia Conservatory Music Therapy Classes at the Waverly and Anne Hutchinson schools in Eastchester, aim to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where neurodiverse students in grades K-5 can thrive through the transformative power of music. These weekly sessions will provide children experiencing unique developmental and cognitive challenges with opportunities to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with their peers.
At its core, this program seeks to bridge the gap between traditional education and therapeutic intervention, recognizing that music can unlock potential in ways other approaches may not. Each session is thoughtfully designed by music therapy specialists to cater to the specific needs of students, using activities such as rhythm exercises, group singing, and interactive movement. These activities are not only enjoyable but also strategically crafted to promote developmental milestones such as improved motor skills, communication, and emotional regulation.
By providing consistent, high-quality music therapy, the Conservatory aims to empower these students to achieve their fullest potential, both academically and personally. This program also serves as a model for broader community impact. As the program grows and its successes are documented, it sets the stage for expansion to all Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe schools.

The weekly therapeutic music classes have led to remarkable improvements in our students’ communication development, physical and motor skill development, behavioral well-being and their social-emotional well-being. I have been privileged to witness the smiles and pure joy of students as they played instruments and immersed themselves in music, a universal language that transcends barriers and creates an access point for all learners.

The Music Therapy Classes at the Waverly and Anne Hutchinson Schools are a vital part of our mission, using music as a powerful tool to support neurodiverse students in grades K-5. The program reflects the Conservatory’s commitment to inclusivity by addressing the unique needs of underserved populations and ensuring access to the benefits of music therapy regardless of ability or circumstance. By integrating therapeutic programming into its educational offerings, the Conservatory broadens its impact and demonstrates how music can transform lives.
This program supports students’ unique needs through music therapy, offering:
Social and Emotional Growth: Encouraging self-expression, emotional regulation, and peer interaction.
