Community Fund Holds 3 v 3 Youth Basketball Tournament to Celebrate New Main Street Tuckahoe Courts

November 10, 2018

Marketing Chair

On Sunday October 14th,, The Community Fund hosted its first 3 versus 3 basketball tournament at the newly refurbished Main Street Basketball Courts in Tuckahoe. The event was held to celebrate the revitalization of this popular recreational space as well as the role that Tuckahoe and The Community Fund had in financing the project, including a 15k discretionary grant made by the Community Fund to pay for the new court surface areas.

Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe residents in 8th and 9th grade were invited to participate and twelve teams signed up with a total of forty-four youth playing in the high energy tournament which lasted four hours and drew over 150 group of spectators from all three towns. Families and players were able to enjoy a beautiful day out that included a lively DJ, burgers cooked up by Eastchester Ambulance Corp and drinks provided by ECAP. The Village of Tuckahoe Police Department was also on hand, donating sports bottles and athletic towels as giveaways for players and their families. Tuckahoe native and Instagram and ESPN star Max Pearce, famous for his dunking skills and new role as a Harlem Globetrotter, also came by to support the event, and reflected on the importance of the Main Street Courts to the broader community “The renovation of the courts is one of the best things that has happened to the community in a while. The Tuckahoe courts have become a common ground: and a place for peace and joy for all of the neighboring communities that surround us. Endless thank you to everyone who made this happen!”

Amy Korb, The Community Fund’s executive Director, summed up the direction that the Fund is headed. “ The Community Fund sees the need to not only support those critical local agencies through yearly grants but also is allowing more flexibility for funds to be used for capital improvement plans, and community building events that bring all three communities together!. As we approach our 100th anniversary, the Fund wants to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of its residents.”

The Communty Fund’s Annual Campaign each fall is the principal source of fundraising each year. Its success determines the amount of grant allocations distributed to the Fund’s member agencies and community programs serving the residents of Bronxville 10708, Eastchester and Tuckahoe.
